Should i get hubcaps
The exact definition of a rim is that it is the outer edge of the wheel, while the hub and spokes are inside of it. Not every car tire has hubcaps. The hubcap is attached to the rim to improve its appearance. It is arguable whether or not they protect the car, such as preventing salt water or mud from splashing up under the vehicle. Rims are always made of metal, whether this is steel or alloy. Hubcaps may be made of plastic or metal. Rims are always going to be on the outer edge of the wheel, meeting the tire.
Hubcaps are added to the wheel. This brings us to the removable part. If anything happens with your tire, you can easily pop-off the hubcap to determine the damage, whereas removing a rim is not an option by yourself. This requires a trip to a dealership or service garage and those can end up taking a lot of time out of your day.
Cons - They look cheap. Nothing worse than buying a brand new car, having everyone eye it up and as soon as they get to the wheels they start to judge. The car manufacturer will usually cover those bolts with a hubcap.
Another option to hubcaps would be alloy wheels. These are more expensive, but they look nicer and will protect your wheel better. Some people say that hubcaps help protect the nuts and bolts on your steel wheels from becoming rusted, but this is debatable.
And underneath is steel anyway, which is a far more durable material than plastic. So if you wanted to go without hubcaps and just use the bare steel wheel, your car would probably be fine. I understand that hubcaps have no functional value, however my spouse and I are arguing over the look of our car without hubcaps.

I say shop around and try something non-oem. Pimp your ride! Ihearyou Joined: Oct Posts: Hub Caps. Some cars and trucks still use hub caps, they only cover the centre part of your wheel, which is good because the wheel nuts can get corroded when open to the weather causing your tire guy to curse and maybe break off a stud or two.
Wheel discs cover the full wheel but also protect the wheel nuts and front axle nut on front wheel drives. I'd personally just keep the "crappy" black rims. I'm assuming your ride is an average car i.
